The old AREALME homepage was a long wall of thumbnails. It listed a lot, but it could not tell you what was new, what everyone was playing this week, or where to find the one test you came for. Today it has a new look, together with search, the category pages, and the menu at the top of every page.

The new AREALME homepage with a search field, category chips, and the Trending now row

A Homepage Built Around What People Are Playing

The new homepage is organized into sections that each answer one question:

  • Trending now - tests and games that are suddenly getting more attention than usual. A test does not need to be the biggest on the site to appear here. It needs to be on the rise.
  • Most popular - the most played this week.
  • New & updated - the latest releases and the tests we recently rebuilt.
  • Browse by category - every category at a glance, followed by top picks from the busiest ones.
  • All-time favorites - the classics people have kept coming back to for years.

Each test appears only once on the page, so scrolling keeps showing you something different instead of the same ten titles in five places.

The lists update every day based on what visitors actually play. Nobody picks the winners by hand, which is why you will sometimes find an English grammar test sitting next to a color vision test at the top.

Search That Answers While You Type

Search used to open a separate window and make you wait. Now you type straight into the box at the top of the homepage and the results appear right under it, letter by letter.

Search results appearing under the search field while typing

A few things that make it nicer to use:

  • It forgives typos. “iq tset” still finds the IQ Test.
  • It understands what you mean, not only the exact title. “reflex” finds the Reaction Time Test.
  • Before you type anything, it shows what is trending, in case you just came to browse.
  • The magnifying glass at the top of every page opens the same search.

Category Pages That Start With the Best

Category pages used to list tests in the order we added them. They now open with the most played first, with the top three marked, and one tap switches to New & updated if you would rather see what changed recently.

The Ability tests category page ranked by popularity

Every page shows you where you are and offers the other categories at the bottom, so you never hit a dead end. Try Ability tests, Games, or Personality and Self.

Tag pages are getting the same look. There are thousands of them, so they are switching over gradually during the next few days.

A Tidier Menu

The menu holds a lot, so it stays compact. It is now easier to scan, it appears the instant the page does, and it looks the same in every language.

The navigation menu with its sections open

Your recently played list and your Daily Puzzle streak are exactly where you left them.

The new menu is arriving on the test and game pages too. You may still see the old one on some pages for a little while as the change spreads.

Faster, and Nothing Jumps Around

The new pages open quickly, even on a slow connection, and they hold still while they load. No more reaching for a test and having it slide away because a picture or an ad showed up late.

They are also ready for a crowd. When a test goes viral and thousands of people arrive at once, everyone gets the same fast page.

All 34 Languages

Everything above arrived in all 34 languages on the same day, including the right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Persian, and Hebrew.

The Japanese homepage on a phone

While we were at it, we went through every tag name in every language and corrected 285 of them. Some had never been translated, and a few were in the wrong language entirely.

Languages with fewer tests have shorter homepages, and skip the sections that would be nearly empty.

What Is Next

  • The remaining tag pages finish switching over this week.
  • The new menu and search finish spreading to every test and game page.
  • If a heading reads oddly in your language, tell us in the comments and we will fix it.
